Prophets are seen in different ways. Some view them with skepticism and dismiss what they say as nonsense. Others embrace what they have to say wholeheartedly and applaud their ability. Authorities and other closed-minded individuals treat them with contempt and label them insane. Throughout history it has often been the case that prophets have lost their liberty or their lives; but does what they have to say really speak any truth?
Nostradamus is perhaps the most famous prophets outside of religion, but he is not the only seer with a voice that should be heard. In religion prophets are considered to be individuals who have had contact with the supernatural or have received a divine power to speak the words of God. Prophecies are also foretold through generations of indigenous cultures, mostly those deemed primitive by modern society such as the Mayans, the Hopi Indians and the Dogon. Do all these ancient texts and belief systems hold any truth?
And what about psychic individuals like Nostradamus? Are they crazy or out of their minds on drugs? Do they merely have psychedelic hallucinations and speak nonsense? When Edgar Cayce foretold of the Stock Market crash of 1929 that brought about the Great Depression, did anybody listen and try to prevent it? Was Madame Helena Blavatsky, the founder of the Theosophical Society a prophet or a fraud? When Jeane Dixon named the hotel where Robert Kennedy would be killed did anybody listen? Are these individuals crazy or gifted? Make up your own mind by reading the alleged predictions of other prophets that have a right to stand beside Nostradamus and learn how a prophet sees into the future by reading How Prophets Induce Their Visions in our Science section.
